UKM ECO-VOLUNTEER SEEDS TO TREES II PROGRAM

On the 30th of April 2016, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) through the “Kelab Ekorelawan” or Eco-volunteer Club have held the Seeds to Trees II Program located in Pulau Langkawi, Kedah. The purpose of this program is to spread awareness and strengthen the understanding to the members of UKM’s Eco-volunteers on the concept of sustainable development as applied by the UNESCO Global Geopark Langkawi.

The Geopark and Conservation division took this opportunity to engage the members of this program, participants from 43 students of UKM in conservation activities.

Sowing of 100 units of mangrove seeds have successfully been made in the Mangrove Sanctuary (Bakau Santuari), Kilim Karst Geoforest Park. In addition to the introduction and briefing sessions on mangroves, there were other activities done, for example, cleaning (gotong-royong) the mangrove nursery and the surrounding area of the Mangrove Sanctuary.
