Langkawi Research Centre

Langkawi Research Centre (PPL) is located on the Campus of Tuanku Abdul Halim Muā€™adzam Shah, Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark. PPL is a focused centre in the Institute for Environment and Development (LESTARI) UKM, with roles to carry out research and academic services related to integrated heritage conservation and development of geoparks.

The main role of Langkawi Research Centre is to conduct research on sustainability science and provide expert services related to integrated heritage conservation and development of geoparks:

  • Conduct research and consultation on regional sustainable development and knowledge tourism
  • Influence local and national policies in issues of integrated approach and governance
  • Pioneer the idea of geopark science as a model of regional sustainable development
  • Strengthen graduate studies and capacity building of various stakeholders
