He is name after trilobites, the ancient fossilized arthropods and among the earliest marine species, thriving in Earth’s oceans for nearly 300 million years before their extinction. These remarkable organisms flourished during the Paleozoic Era, particularly in the Cambrian Period—often referred to as the “Trilobite Age”—dating back over 541 to 485 million years.

UNESCO Global Geoparks are single, unified geographical areas where sites and landscapes of international geological significance are managed with a holistic concept of protection, education, and sustainable development. 4 August 2025 | Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark remains steadfast in its commitment to preserving the island’s natural and cultural treasures through strategic partnerships and active community engagement.
Today, the Langkawi Geopark Rangers Team, alongside strategic partners, Koperasi Kubang Badak and the local community, carried out a joint inspection and cleanup activity along the Kubang Badak Trail.
From tracing the historical charcoal kilns to clearing the pathway to Gua Pinang, a site holding secrets of ancient seas each step was a collective effort to protect Langkawi’s heritage.
Why is the charcoal kiln site in Kubang Badak significant to Langkawi UGGp?

LADA Strengthens Commitment to Sustainable Tourism in Pulau Tuba
31 July 2025 | Thursday, Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) has taken a proactive step in preparation for an upcoming high-profile working visit by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), scheduled for August 2025.
This visit is part of Langkawi’s preparations to join the International Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories (INSTO), an initiative under the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
A comprehensive site visit and inspection session was conducted around Pulau Tuba, led by YBhg. Datuk Seri Haji Iskandar bin Datuk Haji Mohd Kaus, Chief Executive Officer of LADA — marking his first official visit to Pulau Tuba since assuming office.
The site inspection focused on:
✅ Geological sites and nature trails in Pulau Tuba
✅ MADANI community-based projects, including infrastructure upgrades in Pulau Tuba
✅ Tourism products managed by local cooperatives and entrepreneurs
✅ Engagement with the Pulau Tuba community, who actively manage community-based tourism in the area

Coral Planting & IGSC Program at Pulau Jemuruk
31 July 2025 | A total of 33 participants came together for a meaningful marine conservation effort at Pulau Jemuruk:
👥 Participants included:
▪️ 25 from the Marriott Group (St. Regis, Westin, Ritz-Carlton, Aloft)
▪️ 3 from the Kubang Badak community
▪️ 5 officers from the Tourism Division, Geopark & Sustainability Section – Info & Education Unit
A total of 5 coral cages were deployed in the waters surrounding Pulau Jemuruk as part of this reef restoration initiative.
The group also carried out a coastal clean-up, collecting 24 plastic bags of waste weighing approximately 120 kg.
A big thank you to all involved for your dedication towards marine conservation and sustainability in Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark!

IMT-GT Geopark & Ecotourism Trail Workshop
24 July 2025 | Langkawi, Malaysia | A new milestone for the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) as three UNESCO Global Geoparks — Toba Caldera (Indonesia), Satun (Thailand), and Langkawi (Malaysia) — came together for a landmark workshop on Geopark and Ecotourism Trail Development.
With support from Tourism Malaysia and the Centre for IMT-GT Subregional Cooperation (CIMT), the workshop brought together 15 top travel agents from each country to craft and propose specialised travel packages that highlight the best of each Geopark destination.
These curated itineraries aim to promote cross-border ecotourism and shared heritage while strengthening the region’s visibility within the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network
Special thanks to all partners and experts who contributed to the co-creation of this vision. The proposed packages are now undergoing refinement — may they soon open up a whole new world of UNESCO Global Geopark exploration!

Menyahut cabaran ini, pasukan Renjer Geopark Lembaga Pembangunan Langkawi (LADA) telah bertindak pantas menjalankan kerja-kerja pembersihan. Dengan semangat gotong-royong, mereka bukan sahaja memotong dan mengalihkan pokok tumbang, malah turut membersihkan kawasan sekitar bagi memastikan:
