TOURISM DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP FOR KUBANG BADAK BIOGEOTRAIL

Kubang Badak mangrove forests located in the Kubang Badak Forest Reserve with an area of 419 hectares is under the management of the Forestry Department of the State of Kedah. From the research results, there are more than 10 sites that has heritage values that can be highlighted for tourism.

This workshop was held for two days with the participation of 30 participants that comprises of tour guides of Langkawi and the community of Kubang Badak of the Langkawi Research Centre. The workshop was conducted by Prof Emeritus Dato’ Dr Ibrahim Komoo, Prof Dr Norhayati Ahmad, Dr Sharina Abdul Halim and Dr Tanot Unjah.

The participants of the workshop were given exposure on biology, geology and culture sites that are high in heritage value that can be highlighted as tourist attraction.

On the second day, participants were transported to the Kubang Badak and divided into groups according to the location of each site and they have to explain to other participants in a distinctive style the information on the respective sites.

This workshop provides an important input to LADA and UKM in tourism planning and infrastructure development at Kubang Badak in making the Kubang Badak Biogeotrail as the best geotourism attraction in Malaysia.
