MALAYSIAN TECHNICAL COOPERATION PROGRAMME (MTCP) GLOBAL GEOPARK MANAGEMENT

Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Malaysia (MOSTI), through the Academy of Sciences Malaysia has entered the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) – Global Geopark Management on 14th – 20th May 2016 at the Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort, Langkawi. This program was themed “Natural Heritage Protection Towards Sustainable Development” and was attended by participants from various countries such as Fiji, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Tonga and Malaysia.

They were recruited to make observations in Pulau Tuba and present the results from the observations made. The objective of this program is to discuss the issues, concept, ideas, management and other aspects of the management of geoparks. It is an effort towards sustainable development by featuring prominent speakers from Malaysia and UNESCO.

Prof. Nickolaos Zouros, as President of Global Geopark Network Association (GGN), and Hon. Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Komoo Ibrahim, Vice President GGN was invited as speakers. Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) also held a presentation entitled “Langkawi Geopark Experience” by the Geopark and Conservation Division Manager, En Mohd. Nizam bin Mohd Nasir.
